Conversation Skills is a course that enhances effective communication skills to include the ability to stay in dialogue when emotions are driving us to “shout out” or “shut down.” This course provides knowledge and tools for listening, creating connection and facilitating dialogue in tough, emotional situations. The principles and models taught are aligned with spiritual practices. The class is based on the model of Nonviolent Communication (NVC), which includes: taking responsibility for our own experience; commitment to increasing awareness of our own feelings and needs, as well as those of the people with whom we interact; and having the capacity to be authentic and compassionate in all circumstances.

Elective - Credo, Cupido, Scio

This course title, “Credo, Cupido, Scio” is the Latin meaning of “I believe, I desire, I know.”  “Credo” (I believe) refers to the central personal beliefs that drive one’s aspirations and conduct, which in turn impact desires.  In this course, students take a deep and comprehensive look at their personal theologies.  They explore ideas about the nature of God and humanity through the lenses of the formative factors of  experience, revelation, culture, tradition, scripture and reason.  Students will learn to think theologically about the great issues of life and will develop a personal statement to mark their current location in a life-long process of spiritual intellectual growth.

Using the insights gained from exploring “credo,” students will consider “cupido,” (I desire).  The examination of beliefs and desires will culminate in a statement of “scio” (I know).  Students will be able to articulate how this credo could be implemented in the various aspects of their daily life.
